The Dreamer by Laolu head and bust

The Dreamer is the result of our first collaboration with Laolu Senbanjo, a renowned New York-based Nigerian artist. Senbanjo’s work, which combines influences from the Yoruba culture from Nigeria with a more contemporary treatment, is expressed here in porcelain with two creations that capture to perfection the codes of his creative world.

Comprising a head and a bust, The Dreamer by Laolu plays with the artist’s signature geometric patterns in black and gold on white porcelain.

Laolu Senbanjo, also known as “Laolu NYC,” is a Nigerian bred, Brooklyn based visual artist, musician, human rights lawyer and activist. Here, his unique graphic language is coupled with the sculptural form to give rise to a singular work with the personal stamp of a committed artist.

Rendering Senbanjo’s drawing in porcelain called for outstanding work in two main areas. On one hand, the ornamentation team had to etch each one of the strokes by hand so that they could be recreated in the pieces. On the other, it required the expert hands of the decoration team to carefully paint them in black and golden luster.
